Daniela Schlagenhauf

Daniela was born in Switzerland in 1957. She opened her own workshop in France in 1982. She has exhibited several times in Switzerland, France and Belgium and also has permanent exhibitions in various galleries in France:  Paris, Vichy, Bordeaux, Clermont-Ferrand and Toulouse. She works with earthenware, stoneware and porcelain clays. She layers them, works with them like a collage, writes on them or applies oxides, before firing the works at 1180ºC.

She is an avid reader and has a passion for writings and calligraphy, so it was natural that her aesthetic research originated in languages and their expression. She goes from the page to the volume, creating bowls, bas relief, cubes, “reading cushions”,… She layers different materials on which she represents series of letters, signs and marks, more out of an aesthetic sense than as conveyers of meaning, even though all are not invented. Certain symbols are from languages or dialects that exist or have existed: Arabic, Phoenician, Latin, Sumerian pictograms, … With mysterious arabesques, she sends our imagination travelling through universal stories.

 Prices from 110 € to 1800 €.
